Crafting Ambiance in a Timeless Mountain Retreat

LS Group’s lighting team was tasked with enhancing the hotel’s modern mountain aesthetic while ensuring a warm, inviting guest experience.

The primary challenge of this project was creating the necessary depth and contrast with the highly restrained approach to architectural lighting required by the design. Our strategy focused on using indirect light wherever possible to preserve the clean architectural lines while subtly adding a dynamic quality to each space. This approach further served to emphasize the hotel’s expert craftsmanship, amplifying textures and natural elements that define its aesthetic without overwhelming the simplicity of the design.

The rooftop bar is a testament to the perfect balance of elegance and simplicity. The ceiling is enhanced by two layers of integrated lighting, while decorative pendants and sconces introduce subtle depth to the space. This minimalist yet warm lighting approach sets the ideal après-ski atmosphere, perfectly complemented by the luxurious, no-expense-spared furnishings. The result is a timeless experience that envelops guests in an environment that is both inviting and sophisticated.

The design’s simplicity and luxury extend to the guestrooms, where custom wood ceiling applications are carefully lit to showcase the rich millwork and create a calming ambiance. Low-wattage fixtures were strategically chosen to preserve a serene, welcoming atmosphere, allowing the natural materials to take center stage while maintaining a refined, balanced environment.

In the public spaces, the lighting underscores the hotel’s unmatched quality and atmosphere. In the lobby, lighting complements the Bauhaus-inspired design, where raw materials like concrete and refined woodwork meet. Custom sand-cast brass fixtures in the corridors highlight the hotel’s rugged yet sophisticated character while offering a tactile visual experience aligned with the overall aesthetic.

To support the design's sustainability goals, the lighting system incorporates high-efficiency LED technology, which enables flexible dimming and reduces energy consumption, supporting the hotel’s commitment to luxury with environmental responsibility.

Ultimately, the lighting at MOLLIE Aspen speaks loudest through what is not seen. Elevating this ultra-high-end experience within a design that minimized the use of architectural lighting, was a significant challenge, but one our team was able to meet through creativity and rigor. The result is a space that subtly enhances the hotel’s modern mountain retreat atmosphere while staying true to the design vision.
